Hintergrund des Antigens

Die plazentare alkalische Phosphatase (PLAP) ist ein membran-assoziiertes Sialoglycoproteinenzym, das normalerweise während des dritten Trimesters der Schwangerschaft in hoher Konzentration in den Syncytiotrophoblasten der Plazenta vorhanden sind.

Die PLAP-Expression wird Berichten zufolge nur in der normal ausgetragenen Plazenta, in der Endozervix und im Eileiter sowie bei Eierstock- und proximalen gastrointestinalen Tumoren exprimiert.

Die PLAP-Expression ist nur selten in malignen Keimzelltumoren anzutreffen. Dies ist ein eindeutiges Molekül von einer PLAP-ähnlichen Variante, die mehr als 85 % Homologie mit PLAP selbst aufweist.

Das PLAP-ähnliche Enzym wird vorwiegend in normalen fötalen und neonatalen Hoden und im Thymus nachgewiesen. Es wird ebenfalls häufig in Keimzelltumoren exprimiert und kürzlich auch in Seminomen beschrieben. Es wird für die Detektion von Seminomen verwendet.

Berichte weisen darauf hin, dass Klon 8A9 Seminome und Plazenta färbt, was auf eine Spezifität für sowohl PLAP als auch PLAP-ähnliche Enzyme hinweist.
