Utrophin

Antigen Background

The utrophin gene is located on chromosome 6. The protein is a homologue of dystrophin and is known as dystrophin-related protein. In normal muscle, utrophin is restricted to neuromuscular junctions; however, in dystrophin-deficient muscle, utrophin expression may be upregulated and labeling appears around the periphery of most fibers. lmmunohistochemical staining with DRP2 labels vessels and neuromuscular junctions and the upregulated form of utrophin, located around fiber membranes.

Disclaimer

Utrophin is recommended for the detection of specific antigens of interest in normal and abnormal tissues, as an adjunct to conventional histopathology using non-immunologic histochemical stains.
